Our Finance Director Alan Cooper has completed his first Ultra Marathon; an incredible test of endurance at 53.5 miles and a respectable finish time of 10hrs 56mins 55secs (https://resultsbase.net/results/2040802).
The Race to The king is a walk, jog or run 53 miles along the breathtaking South Downs Way to the magnificent finish on the steps of Winchester Cathedral; the burial place of the first Kings and Queens of England.
“This was my first Ultra Marathon (an Ultra is anything longer than a regular marathon) and I hope to do more in the future
I chose this race because the finish line was on the steps of Winchester Cathedral (hence the name of the race) which I thought would be an awesome place to finish a race!
This race was a long time in the making – 6 months of training in fact, lots of Saturday morning 5am starts for 28 mile training runs!
The organiser’s tag line is “More Is In You” and this race pushed me to places I’d not been to before both mentally and physically – I set out not knowing if I was going to finish and picking up a knee injury halfway through made it even more uncertain – there were lots of ups and downs, some dark valleys and some amazing peaks but the key was just to keep moving, one foot in front of the other which I managed to do right to the end!”
